If you live around Donghai and are in need of some backing supplies, or that extra ingredient you just can’t find at the regular supermarket, you can check out Sheng-hui grocery.(生暉)I found the place a couple of days ago. The couple who seem to be the owners were friendly, but they didn’t seem to speak English. Most of the signs are in Chinese. So if it is not packaged in English, be prepared with the Chinese. I use my Chinese, English dictionary on my smart phone if I need some assistance.
The store has a lot of baking supplies. I was looking for pumpkin in a can. I found a generic brand at a pretty cheap price for Taiwan. I also saw lots of grains and beans. They have a decent selection of spices. Although, many are in larger containers. I saw cream cheese in 1 kg and 2 kg sizes, a variety of nuts and even some soda like 7 Up. The prices I saw for many items seems to be reasonable for Taiwan.
They are a little hard to find. If you are going down Fuke Road towards the main part of Taichung, away from Donghai, you need to turn right on a small road just before the bridge that goes into the main part of Taichung. Do a very short distance down that road and turn left onto a small side road. That leads you directly to the store. The store has a very big sign that is well lit. So if you are going in the evening or daytime, it is easy to see.
